Cake

This is my cake- vanilla sponge, then I whipped double cream and folded in cream cheese, some icing sugar and lemon zest, piled raspberries ,strawberries and blueberries in and filled the cake with that, then some of the plain cheesecake mix on the top and some raspberry decoration...except it is hard to get a shot before eatind half...and someone had been stealing raspberries!
It was yummy and I have eaten far too much of it!

Wow busy busy

I love my volunteer roles, I really do...but sometimes there is a chunk of reading to do!

But there has been lots of crafting..in fact here is finished jewellery making, next to abandoned embroidery , and cards made into gift boxes!

Oh and cake of course! My new colours- they said to use 1g for a 1kg cake...how do you measure 1g of thick syrupy food colouring? Well clearly I didn't, but it is less than a blob on the handle of a teaspoon! ha ha

Quick answer to a comment

Yes to Juliab  he did like the cake- 24 hours later it looked like this!

The slodge underneath is chocolate spread- I used it to stop the cake moving about on the board!

Cake and crochet- yeah!

Who could top a day of cake and crochet?
Wanna see some pics???Course you do!

Use cornflour to roll out icing- less sticky than icing sugar.
My method to get cheap character cake which is wheat-free( so I get some!) and the kids seems to like
1) trace an image ( mine is from the computer) then use a pointy stick to trace image impression on freshly iced cake( err bought icing of course...but I did roll it out!).

2)Colour in outlines with icing pen and food colouring

3)Paint colours on with food colouring and paintbrush

4)Remember to open food colouring bottles with a cloth or your hand will look like this!

5) Put on matching theme table cloth to remind everyone what it is supposed to be!

Where is the crochet I hear you ask?
Note to self, put pics in chronological order

I think I like the colours
I like the colours more ,the more I go on...not frogging anything though so I had better get used to them! First I wasn't sure about the denim blue, then the green, now the yellow..yet somehow together I like them!

Finger moustaches!

Having a busy old time being Mum and school governor still...managed some time for daftness- may I present finger moustaches and lips!
Ha ha, can you see the top right sketch? I clearly decided it looked more like Barbie hair than a moustache! Oh and the bottom one is a pen version! They are going down a storm at Amareke jnr's school!
'Tache in action!
My cup of minty tea was accompanied by a rather indulgent cake selection; chocolate cake that I added nuts and coconut and sultanas into( that makes it healthy right?) and a whoopie pie...nope, not even I can justify that one!
And finally a quick looksie at a cuff I made for me me me! I had made the little cross stitch space invaders ( well they are pixelated so translate easily!), but couldnt decide what to do with them, I have made some Mario images into little brooches, but I really liked the space invaders together- they just work better...so I wimped out and stiched them onto black felt and used velcro as a fastening. I do rather like it though!

No excuses!

No surprises to me how long since I visited blogland, been superbusy with Governor duties, and everything tends to take longer when you are new at it doesn't it?
I haven't just been studying and school flavoured busifying....

Been cooking with  the kids- we had an indoor picnic!
"Squashed fly biscuits"- shortbread with sultanas!
Veg and bacon mix the kids love over pasta
Choc chip cupcakes and cheese star scones- yum!
 It was all very yummy!
We even had "proper" invitations- lovely way to spend a rainy day!
Did some crochet- this is a granny square mini blanket I suppose, using up a stash of superchunky sirdir yarn and a 20mm hook! It is pictured on the back of my big sofa.
Got a bit obsessed with tessilation, I soo love my cheapy square paper notebook!
Finally found some signs of life in the garden- cute snowdrops...
and signs of last year's summer long since lost behind an overgrown bush- BUT the council are starting up garden waste bins collection next week so we might even do some hacking back and fetch the footballs!
Lacking much in the way of real bloomage, I finally got round to trying a few patterns from guess which book(!), given to me at Christmas by my sister, not as a present, but because it was too complicated! I am trying but haven't picked up my knitting needles for donkey's years( why donkey's? do they live so very long??) Hopefully I will have come up with a decent sized bunch by Mothering sunday.
ps, I was thinking about some wire to strengthen the stalks

bye for now

Littlest is 5!

My youngest (AKA the "last of the littles") has not long turned 5. I like to think I am a bit of an all round crafty goddess(!)...yet slightly less fabulous at cake decorating!Errm to the point of a bit rubbish in the goddess stakes!
But that doesn't stop me producing a sweet something for the littles on their birthdays...because ,frankly, my experience is that birthday person squeals recognition at the picture for a split second, then asks to have a slice with mostly icing( and deftly avoids all the actual cake in said slice). This means I feel justified in my hatred of overpriced supermarket additive cakes...I could rant about promoting unhealthy foods to kids but given the level of food colouring in this latest creation, I will shut up and show you a picture!
